Deadline is exclusively reporting that Colin Farrell is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to play the role of The Penguin in Matt Reeves’ upcoming feature The Batman.
Matt Reeves was brought on board the project back in February 2017, taking over the reigns of directing the film that Ben Affleck was originally set to direct based on a script he wrote with Geoff Johns. Since then, Reeves has been adapting the script for The Batman along with Ben Affleck, upon which Affleck revealed in January that he wouldn’t be reprising the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for Reeves’ version.
The Penguin, also known as Oswald Cobblepot, is a master manipulator and while he favours using henchmen to do his bidding, but he’s more than willing to defend himself by any means one-on-one.
I’m surprised/intrigued by this latest development and now I’m wondering if Reeves might be adopting the approach of the character that was tackled in the Telltale Batman game version of Oswald Cobblepot.
The Batman is scheduled for cinematic release on the 25th June 2021.
