Deadline is exclusively reporting that MMA drama film Cagefighter from Jesse Quinones is set to commence production on the 1st November in Saskatchewan, Canada, after recasting a few roles including the lead.
Cagefighter focuses around mixed martial arts champions Reiss Gibson with five title defences under his belt and is on the verge of becoming a legend of the cage. However, when his promoter, Max Black, sets up a cross-promotional bout against international Pro Wrestling showman Randy Stone, Gibson faces the fight of his life and challenges on multiple fronts.
The film is being written and directed by Jesse Quinones, with the film being sold by UK production company Kaleidoscope.
Kaleidoscope CEO Spencer Pollard, released a statement saying:
Kaleidoscope is very excited to be able to bring Cagefighter to AFM with the cast locked and the film shooting before we arrive in Santa Monica. We think the film will be very sought after and the sales team are looking forward to discussing it with buyers during the market.
Shayne Putzlocher and Jessica Gaube of Trilight Entertainment serve as producers on the project alongside Sara Shaak of Anamorphic Media and Lorianne Hall. Calgary’s Anamorphic Media are financing the project.
Cagefighter now has UK MMA fighter Alex Montagnani in the lead role as Reiss Gibson alongside Gina Gershon (playing the role of Max Black), Jonathan Good (also known as AEW wrestler Jon Moxley, playing the role of Randy Stone), Jay Reso (also known as former WWE wrestler Christian) and former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Luke Rockhold.
