Mortal Kombat: Chin Han And Hiroyuki Sanada Join Cast For Reboot At New Line


Variety is exclusively reporting that Chin Han and Hiroyuki Sanada are the latest names to join the cast New Line’s upcoming reboot of Mortal Kombat.

 

The plot for the reboot is currently being kept under wraps, but the 1995 film (directed by Paul W.S Anderson) focused on three unknowing martial artists who are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world.

 

Chin Han (whose credits include Marco Polo and Skyscraper) will be playing the role of Shang Tsung, a demonic shapeshifter who absorbs the living souls of those he defeats in order to maintain his youth and power and is able to change his appearance.

 

Hiroyuki Sanada (whose credits include Life and Westworld) will be playing the role of Scorpion, an undead ninja specter seeking revenge for his own death at the hands of Quan Chi.

 

The duo will join a cast that includes Joe TaslimLudi LinSisi StringerMechad BrooksTadanobu Asano, Josh Lawson, Jessica McNamee and Lewis Tan.

 

The video game franchise, which started in 1992, has gone on to sell 49m copies worldwide. The script for the reboot has been written by Greg Russo, with James Wan producing the project under his banner Atomic Monster. Simon McQuoid, a veteran commercial director, will be making his directorial feature debut here with Mortal Kombat. Todd Garner will serve as producer while Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear and Sean Robins will serve as executive producers.

 

Mortal Kombat is set to shoot later this year in southern Australia and is currently scheduled for cinematic release on the 5th March 2021.
