Halo: Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac And Kate Kennedy Join Cast For Showtime Series

Deadline is reporting that Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac and Kate Kennedy are the latest names to join the cast of Showtime’s television series adaptation of the video game franchise Halo.

Halo is set in the 26th Century, where humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant are at war, told primarily through the eyes of Master Chief. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

Natascha McElhone (whose credits include Californication and Designated Survivor) will be playing two pivotal roles in the Halo series, Dr. Catherine Halsey, the brilliant, conflicted and inscrutable creator of the Spartan supersoldiers and Cortana, the most advanced AI in human history, and potentially the key to the survival of the human race.

Bokeem Woodbine (whose credits include Fargo and Queen & Slim) will be playing the role of Soren-066, a morally complex privateer at the fringes of human civilisation whose fate will bring him into conflict with his former military masters and his old friend, the Master Chief.

Shabana Azmi (whose credits include Next of Kin and The Wishing Tree) will be playing the role of Admiral Margaret Parangosky, the head of the Office of Naval Intelligence.

Bentley Kalu (whose credits include Edge of Tomorrow and Avengers: Age of Ultron) will be playing the role of Spartan Vannak-134, a cybernetically augmented supersoldier conscripted at childhood who serves as the defacto deputy to the Master Chief.

Natasha Culzac (whose credits include The Witcher and Cursed) will be playing the role of Spartan Riz-028, a focused, professional and deadly, cybernetically enhanced killing machine.

Kate Kennedy (whose credits include A Midsummer’s Night Dream and Handy) will be playing the role of Spartan Kai-125, an all-new courageous, curious and deadly Spartan supersoldier.

The new additions join Pablo Schreiber and Yerin Ha.

Meanwhile in a separate report from Deadline they spoke with Showtime’s Entertainment president Gary Levine, where he talked about the project saying:

There’s all kinds of new drama that we will be exploring but we will stay faithful to the canon. We’re not going to violate anything that’s in the canon. We’ve been lucky to have 343 Industries working with us every step of the way. They’ve been a great resource for suggesting things that we weren’t aware of and also at times to say sometimes something violates something in the canon.

The Halo series has been in lengthy pre-production, with Rupert Wyatt originally attached to direct a few episodes and serve as executive producer, but then departed the project in December last year. His replaced, Otto Bathurst, was officially announced last month, along with the news that the initial ten-episode series order was now trimmed down to nine for creative reasons.

Kyle Killen and Steven Kane serve as co-showrunners, with Scott Pennington, Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank serving as executive producers.
