Deadline is exclusively reporting that Andrea-Rachel Parker is the latest name to join the cast of Hulu drama series Wu-Tang: An American Saga, a ten-episode drama focusing on one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history.
Created and written by Wu-Tang Clan frontman The RZA and writer Alex Tse, the series is set in early 90’s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the show tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who strives to unite a dozen young, black men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories. Chris Robinson is set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot episode.
The report states that Andrea-Rachel Parker (whose credits include The Deuce and Power) will be playing the role of witty, sarcastic and fun-loving Mama Ganga.
The series is being executive produced by Wu-Tang clan members The RZA and Method Man, alongside Alex Tse and Imagine Television’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Fellow Wu-Tang members Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa and GZA, as well as the estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, will serve as consulting producers.
Parker will join a cast that includes Ashton Sanders, Shameik Moore, Siddiq Saunderson, Marcus Callender, Zolee Griggs, Erika Alexander, Julian Elijah Martinez, Dave East, Vinnie Pastore, Anthony Chisholm, Armen Garo, Caleb Castille, Johnell Young and Ebony Obsidian.
