Media outlets are reporting that the TV series adaptation has been given a early second season renewal from WarnerMedia, before the first season has even premiered, as it moves the drama from TNT to TBS.
The television series is set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland and the remnants of humanity inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. The show will tackle issues such as class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival.
Behind the scenes, the Snowpiercer series has undergone a few changes, with Graeme Manson replacing Josh Friedman as showrunner back in February 2018. The reports also state that Rowan Blanchard will be promoted to series regular for the second season.
Brett Weitz, general manager for TBS and TNT, released a statement saying:
Snowpiercer is the perfect show to kick-off TBS’ entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting. We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues.
Snowpiercer stars Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, Alison Wright, Benjamin Haigh, Roberto Urbina, Katie McGuinness, Susan Park, Sam Otto, Sheila Vand, Lena Hall, Iddo Goldberg, Jaylin Fletcher, Steve Ogg, Timothy V. Murphy, Happy Anderson, Jonathan Lloyd Walker, Aleks Paunovic, Shaun Toub, Kerry O’Malley, Aaron Glenane, Fiona Vroom and Rowan Blanchard.
