Morbius: Jared Harris Joins Cast For Spider-Man Spinoff

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Jared Harris is the latest name to join the cast of Sony Picture’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Morbius.

Morbius focuses on Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who tries to cure himself from a fatal blood disease, he injects himself with a treatment serum derived from bats, with tragic results. He becomes afflicted with traits of a vampire, including fangs and a thirst for human blood, which more often than not put him at odds against Spider-Man.

The Morbius character was created for the comics back in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for “The Amazing Spider-Man issue 101”, and would start off as Spider-Man’s nemesis before evolving into his own as a comic hero as the decades went on.

The report states that Jared Harris’s (whose credits include Mad Men and The Terror) role is being kept under wraps.

The Morbius spinoff script is written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, with Daniel Espinosa directing and Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster serving as producers on the project.

Jared Harris joins a cast that includes Jared Leto, Adria Arjona and Matt Smith.

Morbius is scheduled for cinematic release on the 31st July 2020.
