Variety is reporting that Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are in final negotiations with Sony Pictures to pen a new script for the Masters of the Universe feature, with brothers Adam and Aaron Nee still attached to direct.
Masters of the Universe revolves around He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world known as Eternia that has been ravaged by the sinister dark lord known as Skeletor. There has been a few adaptations, an animated version called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe which aired between 1983 to 1985 and also had a film called Masters of the Universe released in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Stateside the film only made $17m.
Mattel Films is partnering with Sony Pictures on the film, with Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and DeVon Franklin serving as producers. The previous draft of the screenplay was written by David S. Goyer and he’ll remain on the project as an executive producer.
