The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that New Line has hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write the script for the reboot of horror franchise Final Destination.
The horror franchise follows the concept of a character having a premonition of a horrific and deadly event, cheats his or her own death and saves several other lives in the process, only to have Death, as a personified but unstoppable force, come for the survivors one by one.
The original Final Destination was released in 2000 and was followed by four sequels, with the last one released in 2011. The franchise has included stars such as Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Seann William Scott Mary Elizabeth Winstead, P. J Byrne, David Koechner, Courtney B. Vance, Shantel VanSanten, Nick Zano, Mykelti Williamson and Tony Todd (who starred in all of the Final Destination films). Overall the franchise has earned over $665m worldwide.
The plot details weren’t revealed along with the report. Melton and Dunstan are known for being horror veterans, having written scripts for four of the films in the Saw franchise.
