Stargirl: Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins And Nelson Lee Join Cast For DC Universe Series

Deadline is reporting that Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins and Nelson Lee are the latest names to join the cast for DC Universe series Stargirl.

Stargirl was created by Geoff Johns back in 1999, known as Courtney Whitmore, who receives her powers by wielding Starman’s Cosmic staff and wears the Cosmic Converter Belt which gives her agility and enhanced reflexes. The character has appeared in animated series such as Justice League Unlimited and appeared in live-action form in the final seasons of Smallville and also during the second season of CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, portrayed by Sarah Grey. The television series version sees high school student Whitmore band together with the Justice Society of America to fight villains, past and present.

The report states that Joy Osmanski (whose credits include Santa Clarita Diet and Shameless) will be playing the role of Tigress, with the character description for the show stating: “Protecting and providing for her family, Paula Brooks hunts the world’s most dangerous game – humans – as the Tigress.” In DC Comics, the character was introduced in the late 40’s as the nemesis of Wildcat and was inspired in part by another DC’s most famous femme fatale Catwoman. Neil Hopkins (whose credits include LOST and Matador) will be playing the role of Lawrence ‘Crusher’ Crock, also more commonly known as Sportsmaster, a longtime enemy of the Justice Society of America. The character description is as follows: “He sees his criminal pursuits as a game to win and his competitors as targets to kill. The only thing more important to Crock than ‘the game’ is his family.” The character was also introduced to comic readers back in the late 1940’s and often used augmented athletic gear. He would often team up (and even marry) Tigress. Nelson Lee (whose credits include Blade: The Series and the upcoming Mulan) will be playing the role of the mastermind Dragon King, a supervillain who hides his face and past. His character description is as follows: “A deadly and mysterious hooded man…this controversial scientist has been experimenting on himself and his victims since the 1940s.” The Dragon King was introduced in DC Comics back in 1981 as a former high-ranking scientist and occult expert in the Government of Imperial Japan who, after World War II, experimented on himself to horrific effect.

The trio will join a cast that includes Brec BassingerYvette MonrealChristopher James BakerJoel McHaleLou Ferrigno Jr and Henry Thomas.

The Stargirl series has been ordered for a thirteen-episode season, aiming for a 2019 premiere release date and will be produced by Warner Bros. TV, Geoff Johns’ Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.
