The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Scott Derrickson returning to the directors chair to helm the Marvel Studios sequel of Doctor Strange.
Marvel’s Doctor Strange has us follow talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put aside his ego and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions.
Scott Derrickson directed and co-wrote the 2016 original film and now after him and Marvel Studios quietly went around finalising a deal, the search begins for a writer to be attached to the sequel.
The report states that sources claim that the studios intention is to have the script/story planned out by the end of 2019 and aim to begin production in spring 2020. If everything goes according to plan, the film may have a May 2021 cinematic release date.
Doctor Strange will see the return of Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, as well as Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
