Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher novel series, revealed during an interview with BBC Radio Manchester that a television series is in development from Skydance TV and Paramount TV.
The novel series focuses on Jack Reacher, former major in the United States Army Military Police Corps, roaming the United States, taking odd jobs and investigating suspicious and frequently dangerous situations. The character has appeared in multiple novels since the late 90’s, and has had two films, one in 2012 (Jack Reacher) and it’s 2016 sequel (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back), with Tom Cruise as the title character.
in the interview, Lee Child said:
I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it’s a big component of who he is… So what I’ve decided to do is – there won’t be any more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead we’re going to take it to Netflix or something like that. Long-form streaming television, with a completely new actor. We’re rebooting and starting over and we’re going to try and find the perfect guy.
The project is still in the very early development stages, with Skydance taking the lead and the producers figuring out what the next chapter in the franchise will be, before pitching it to the streaming and cable networks.
