Halo is set in the 26th Century, where humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant are at war, told primarily through the eyes of Master Chief. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.
Showtime are looking for a Spartan-like warrior of large build to play the role of John aka Master Chief, who is listed as a series regular. While Chief’s face is never fully shown in the video game franchise, it’s doubtful that the TV series will keep the characters face hidden under the helmet the entire time.
The report also states that another character that is set to feature in the series is Dr. Catherine Halsey, who has appeared in Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians. Dr. Halsey is the creator of the SPARTAN-II program which produced the elite corps of super soldiers and their Mjolnir Powered Assault Armor. The casting notice is looking for an actress between the ages of 55 to 65 for the role, meaning the series will likely take place where the character is working to protect her Spartan creations rather than simply raising them for war. Also on the casting list is for a character named Jenny, an Asian woman between the ages of 18 to 20.
The original game was released back in 2001 and since then the Halo franchise has grown into a global entertainment phenomenon, selling more than 77m copies worldwide and grossing more than $5bn. Kyle Killen will serve as Showrunner/Executive producer on the series, with Rupert Wyatt also serving as executive producer for Amblin Television, Showtime and Microsoft/343 Industries. Wyatt will also direct several episodes. Also serving as executive producers are Scott Pennington, Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
There’s no set date from the network yet for the series, but production is scheduled to commence in Budapest in June 2019.
