Black Panther 2: Ryan Coogler Returning To Write And Direct Sequel

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Ryan Coogler has quietly signed a deal to write and direct the sequel to Marvel Studios blockbuster hit Black Panther.

The film picked up after the events of Captain America: Civil War, focusing on T’Challa returning home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda, to succeed to the throne and take his place as the rightful King after his father’s death. However, two enemies are working together that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young King must rally his allies and release the full power of the Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Black Panther made huge numbers at the box office this year, earning over $700m at the U.S and earning $1.3 billion worldwide. THR’s sources claim that the plan at this stage is for Ryan Coogler to write the script next year, with an eye to start production in either late 2019 or early 2020. Maybe something will be announced after Avengers 4 next year?

Black Panther starred Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita N’yongo, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Florence Kasumba, John Kani, Sterling K. Brown and Andy Serkis.
