Variety is exclusively reporting that Marc Maron is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros. and DC Films Joker origin film from Todd Phillips.
The film will be an origin story of The Joker, with the studio describing the film as “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”
The project has been long reported about, since way back in August of last year it was reported that Todd Philips and Scott Silver were co-writing the script, with Philips also attached to direct and serve as producer. Emma Tillinger Koskoff will be working as a producer on the project and Richard Baratta is serving as executive producer.
According to Variety’s sources, if he signs, Marc Maron (whose credits include GLOW and Harvey Beaks) would be playing the role of an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime.
Joker is set to commence production in New York this coming September and is being scheduled for cinematic release on the 4th October 2019.
