Deadline is reporting that Diane Guerrero has signed up for a series regular role as Crazy Jane for DC Universe’s upcoming live-action drama series Doom Patrol.
The series is being described as a reimagining of one of DC Comics most beloved group of outcast superheroes. The group includes Robotman, Negative man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, who are led by modern-day scientist Dr. Niles Caulder aka The Chief. The Doom Patrol members each suffered accidents that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatised and downtrodden, the members found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence…and to protect Earth from what they find. The Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered misfits who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.
The Doom Patrol characters will be appearing first in the live-action series of Titans on the DC Universe, and the reports state that the Doom Patrol series will pick up after the events of Titans first season, with the reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: Their lives will never, ever be the same.
Diane Guerrero (whose credits include Orange Is The New Black and Jane The Virgin) will be playing the unlikely hero who is suffering from the world’s most severe case of multiple personality disorder. Each of her sixty-four distinct personas manifest a different superpower making Jane the most powerful member of Doom Patrol…and the most unstable.
Jeremy Carver will be writing the series based on the DC characters originally written and drawn by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani. Carver will executive produce the series alongside Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions.
