Joker: Zazie Beetz In Talks To Star Opposite Joaquin Phoenix

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Zazie Beetz is in talks with Warner Bros. to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in super villain origin feature Joker.

The film will be an origin story of The Joker, with the studio describing the film as “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The report states that while the script is being kept under wraps, it says that Zazie Beetz (whose credits include Atlanta and Deadpool 2) could be playing the role of a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the clown prince of crime.

The project has been long reported about, since way back in August of last year it was reported that Todd Philips and Scott Silver were co-writing the script, with Philips also attached to direct and serve as producer. Emma Tillinger Koskoff will be working as a producer on the project and Richard Baratta is serving as executive producer.

Joker is set to commence production in New York this coming September and is being scheduled for cinematic release on the 4th October 2019.
