The first season introduced audiences to Danny Rand, the heir to the multi-billion dollar Rand Corp. who returns to New York after training for years in the mysterious city of K’un L’un. Through his training, he was chosen to be the living weapon known as the Iron Fist, which allows him to channel his chi energy into his fists. The second season sees The Immortal Iron Fist and Colleen Wing set on a new adventure as the protectors of Chinatown in New York City, where death, action and surprises await them around every corner. The second season sees Danny has promised that with Matt Murdock gone, he will step up and protect his city. But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquer his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.
At the San Diego Comic Con panel for Iron Fist, it was revealed that Simone Missick would be guest starring and the Daughters of the Dragon (Colleen Wing and Misty Knight) will be an official team in the second season. Also revealed was that Alice Eve will be playing Typhoid Mary and Sacha Dhawan will be reprising his role as Davos aka Steel Serpent, who will be the main villain.
Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer, Jeph Loeb said:
I think those of you that know, know that we’re going to some pretty amazing places. If you’ve been looking at the neon turn from green to red, you have a pretty good idea of what Sacha will be doing this season.
As for Typhoid Mary, in the Marvel comics, Mary Walker aka Typhoid Mary, is a mutant who becomes an assassin for various criminal organisations, including Wilson Fisk and The Hand. She has special abilities like telekinesis, but one of her defining characteristics is a result of dissociative identity disorder, with three personalities that cause a rapid shift in mood and action.
The second season has a new showrunner in Raven Metzner, with Black Panther fight coordinator Clayton Barber being brought in to bring a different flavour to the fight sequences this season compared to the first. To say that the first season of Iron Fist didn’t win the majority of viewers over would be an understatement (I still haven’t gone back to finish watching it), but a change in creative and the way Danny Rand has been handled since then in the Defenders series and his brief appearance in the second season of Luke Cage has me optimistic that we’ll get the Iron Fist show that some were originally hoping to get from the start.
Iron Fist stars Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Tom Pelphrey, Jessica Stroup, Sacha Dhawan, Simone Missick and Alice Eve.
