The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Billy Dee Williams will be returning to the Star Wars franchise, reprising the role of Lando Calrissian for Star Wars: Episode IX.
Episode XI marks the third instalment in the new trilogy after The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, with plot details being kept under wraps at the moment.
There was speculation over the last few days about Billy Dee Williams joining the film as the actor bowed out of an upcoming sci-fi/pop culture convention, citing a conflict with a film schedule. THR claims that their sources have confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will be playing the galactic gambler Lando Calrissian on the big screen for the first time in over thirty-five years. Williams made his first appearance as Lando in 1980’s Empire Strikes Back, and featured also in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Williams has just portrayed the character in live-action, over the last number of years he has voiced Lando in various cartoon series and video games.
Star Wars: Episode IX will also star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and Keri Russell.
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for cinematic release on the 20th December 2019.
