Deadline is exclusively reporting that Jim Carrey is in negotiations to star in Paramount’s film adaptation of the classic video game series Sonic The Hedgehog.
The video game series was launched by Sega back in 1991 and to date has sold more than 360m copies worldwide, from packaged to digital games on consoles, tablets and mobile. The games focus on Sonic on a quest to defeat Doctor Robotnik, a scientist who has imprisoned animals in robots and stolen magical Chaos Emeralds.
Paramount acquired the film rights to the property back in 2017, and currently has Jeff Fowler attached to direct. Neal H. Moritz will be serving as on the project under his Original Film banner. Deadpool director Tim Miller will be serving as executive producer alongside Toby Ascher. Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons will serve as co-producers.
The reports states that Jim Carrey (whose recent credits include ) is in talks to play the villain known as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. Jim Carrey could be joining already cast James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
Sonic The Hedgehog is scheduled for cinematic release on the 15th November 2019.
