Deadline is exclusively reporting that Xavier Dolan and Will Beinbrink are the latest names to join the cast of New Line’s It sequel It: Chapter Two.
The synopsis for It (the first chapter) is as follows:
Seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine, are about to face their worst nightmare – an ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town’s children. Banding together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the murderous, bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise.
Released last year, It became the highest grossing horror film of all time, making over $700m worldwide on a $35m budget. While Chapter One of It focused on the group of children having to take on Pennywise, Chapter Two will follow the second half of Stephen King’s novel where the characters return to their hometown as adults to take on Pennywise once again.
Xavier Dolan (whose credits include I Killed My Mother and Tom At The Farm) will be playing the role of Adrian Mellon. In the novel, Mellon was a gay man living in Derry who was attacked by bullies. Will Beinbrink (whose credits include I Saw The Light and Queen Of The South) will be playing the role of Tom Rogan who was Beverly’s abusive lover in the novel and the 1990’s miniseries.
Andy Muschietti is back to helm the sequel, with Gary Dauberman penning the script that is still being worked on. The rest of the cast so far includes Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, James Ransone, Andy Bean, Jay Ryan and Isaiah Mustafa.
It: Chapter Two is scheduled for cinematic release on the 6th September 2019.
