Deadline is exclusively reporting that Utkarsh Ambudkar and Ron Yuan are the latest names to join the cast of Disney’s live-action adaptation of Mulan.
Disney’s retelling of an old Chinese folktale focusing on a young Chinese maiden who learns that her weak father is called up into the army in order to fight the invading Huns. Knowing that he’ll not survive war in his condition, she decides to disguise herself as a man and take his place.
Utkarsh Ambudkar (whose credits include White Famous and Game Over, Man!) will be playing the role of con artist Skath, while Ron Yuan (whose credits include Marco Polo and Siren) will be playing the role of fiercely loyal Sergeant Qiang, second in command of the Imperial Regiment.
Niki Caro has been attached to direct the project since February of last year, with Chris Bender, Jason Reed and Jake Weiner serving as producers. The duo could join already cast Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen and Gong Li, with Jet Li in allegedly in talks.
Mulan is scheduled for cinematic release on the 27th March 2020.
