Kung Fury: Michael Fassbender To Star In Feature Film Based On Cult Short Film

The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Michael Fassbender is set to star in action-comedy Kung Fury, a feature based on the 2015 cult short film.

Set in Miami in 1985, the city is being kept safe by Kung Fury aka the greatest damn cop of all time. The Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer aka Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through time and space itself to save his friends, defend the Miami Kung Fu Academy and defeat evil once and for all.

Kung Fury was a success that was partly funded through Kickstarter, was selected for the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes and has gained over 25m views worldwide. The reports state that the feature film will be a sequel to the original short and is set to shoot in the summer around Europe and USA.

David Sandberg, who wrote and directed the original short, will be starring and producing the feature under his Laser Unicorns’ banner and David Hasselhoff, who sang the theme song ‘Lone Survivor’ for the original short, will also be starring in the film. David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt will serve as producers under the KatzSmith Productions banner alongside Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Conor McCaughan. Pelle Strandberg will be executive producing under the Laser Unicorns banner.

Bloom will handle international sales and introduce the film to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival.
