The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Bros. have officially confirmed that Wonder Woman 2 is pencilled in for released on the 13th December 2019.
Wonder Woman has us witnessing Diana, an Amazonian princess, growing up on the paradise island known as Themyscira until one day an Allied intelligence operative named Steve Trevor crashes off the coast of the island, leading to a battle with German forces on the shore. Trevor explains to the Amazons of the war raging in the outside world. Learning of the millions dying in the war, including women and children, Diana leaves her home to fight in the war to end all wars.
Wonder Woman has been a box office hit this year, even earning the title of holding better than any superhero film in more than 15 years at the North American box office and has earned more than $780m worldwide, the fourth highest grossing film in the world this year.
Personally Wonder Woman is one of my favourite films of the year and putting the sequel for release in two years time makes sense for the studio to have time to develop the story for the sequel and capitalise when the fire’s hot so to speak on the buzz the film has generated with audiences this year. Wonder Woman starred Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and Eugene Brave Rock.
Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled for cinematic release on the 13th December 2017.
