Ready Player One: Comic Con Trailer Released Online

Warner Bros. have released the first trailer for the upcoming Steven Spielberg film adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel Ready Player One at San Diego Comic Con.

The synopsis for the film is as follows:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday. When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Well this first trailer went above expectations. I’ve never read Cline’s novel and while I grew up on Spielberg films, he hasn’t delivered a brilliant film in my eyes for at least a decade. But this however he looks like he’s returning to the methods he used in Tintin in the OASIS with it’s CG-created world and the stunning photo-real environments. Also the many easter eggs dropped within the trailer, especially a blink and you’ll miss him Freddy Krueger for example.

Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, T.J Miller, Lena Waithe, Hannah John-Kamen, Win Morisaki, Philip Zhao and Ralph Ineson.

Ready Player One is scheduled for cinematic release on the 30th March 2018.
