Black Lightning: James Remar And Damon Gupton Join Cast

At the DC/CW Series Black Lightning panel, it was announced that James Remar and Damon Gupton have been cast as series regulars.

The story of Black Lightning focuses on Jefferson Pierce, a man who hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning. The character was created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden for DC Comics, making his debut in 1977 and was one of the first major African-American superheroes in the comics. His two daughters also would follow in his superhero footsteps, with Anissa Pierce aka Thunder and become a member of the Outsiders, while Jennifer Pierce aka Lightning would be recruited by the Justice Society of America.

James Remar (whose credits include The Path and Gotham) will be playing the role of  Peter Gambi, the oldest friend of Jefferson Pierce and Jefferson’s father figure, mentor and “tailor”. His history with Jefferson goes back farther and deeper than anyone knows, and Gambi’s role in Jefferson’s life will become a painful window into the past that will affect the future of their relationship forever. Damon Gupton (whose credits include Bates Motel and Criminal Minds) will be playing the role of Inspector Henderson, a veteran officer of the law who is now the highest-ranking detective on the force. His role in the community puts him at odds with Black Lightning, but they soon become unlikely allies.

They’ll be joining a cast that includes Cress WilliamsNafessa WilliamsChina Anne McClain and Christine Adams.
