Mariah Carey: Drama Series Based On Her Life In Development At Starz

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Starz is developing a fictional scripted drama series based on the real-life experiences of musician Mariah Carey.


Written by Nina Colman, the drama is set in New York City, 1986, and chronicles the rise of an ambitious bi-racial 16 year old girl, an aspiring singer-songwriter who survived a difficult childhood to become the biggest selling female music artist of all time.


Nina Colman will serve as showrunner if Starz is to commit to given the project a series order, whilst she’ll executive produce alongside Mariah Carey, Golden Globe nominee Stella Bulochnikov under the Magic Carpet Productions banner, Mariah’s longtime friend Brett Ratner, Teri Weinberg and John Cheng.


Mariah Carey has had a music career spanning over 20 years, selling over 200m records worldwide and winning numerous awards including  the World Music Awards’ Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium, the Grammy’s Best New Artist in 1991 and Billboard’s Special Achievement Award for the Artist of the Decade during the 90’s.
