The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Milana Vayntrub, Derek Theler, Jeremy Tardy, Calum Worthy, Matthew Moy and Kate Comer have been cast Freeform’s ensemble comedy series, Marvel’s New Warriors.
The New Warrior’s is a ten episode ensemble series that focuses on six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where the bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.
Milana Vayntrub (whose credits include Other Space and This Is Us) will be playing the role of Doreen Green aka Squirrel Girl, a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a… squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.
Derek Theler (whose credits include Project: SERA and Big Daddy) will be playing the role of Craig Hollis aka Mister Immortal, a man that can’t die… or so he says. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all—he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what’s the rush?
Jeremy Tardy (whose credits include War Dogs and dear white People) will be playing the role of Dwayne Taylor aka Night Thrasher, a brilliant and noble and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.
Calum Worthy (whose credits include Austin & Ally and Lost Generation) will be playing the role of Robbie Baldwin aka Speedball, an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.
Matthew Moy (whose credits include 2 Broke Girls and Steven Universe) will be playing the role of Zack Smith aka Microbe, a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and with whom you hung out with. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him.
Kate Comer (whose credits include Veep and Animal Kingdom) will be playing the role of Deborah Fields aka Debrii, a low-level telekinetic, very low like she can move a paper cup but she’s also proud, funny and quick-witted.
Series Executive Producer and Showrunner Kevin Biegel, released a statement saying:
