The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Alice Braga will be taking the role originally intended for Rosario Dawson in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men spinoff New Mutants.
The film, based on the comics that launched in the early 1980’s created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, will focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teenagers that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian codenamed Cannonball and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock. The film is set to be a horror-thriller hybrid, focusing on the five diverse teens learning to cope with their superpowers who must escape a secret facility where they are being held against their will.
Alice Braga (whose credits include City of God and Queen of the South) will be playing the role of Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself but also has more going on than she lets on. The last month Rosario Dawson was in talks for the role and it was believed that she was going to be attached to the role but the report states the reasons are unknown as to why she’s passed on it.
New Mutants is scheduled for cinematic release on the 13th April 2018.
