Deadline is reporting that Annalise Basso and Sasha Frolova are the latest names to join the cast of TNT pilot Snowpiercer, a futuristic thriller drama based on the 2013 feature film directed by Bong Joon-ho.
The pilot is set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland and the remnants of humanity inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. The show will tackle issues such as class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival. In addition to production starting soon on the pilot, the project is getting backup scripts written.
The report states that Annalise Basso (whose credits include Ouija: Origin of Evil and Captain Fantastic) will be playing the role LJ Anderson, a quiet, diligent, Midwestern girl, who lives with her parents in a fourth-class cabin and works in the greenhouse car. Poor but not as desperate as those that live in the tail of the train, LJ has made peace with her daily routine until a major event shakes up her world. Sasha Frolova (whose credits include The OA and The Empty Man) will be playing the role of Pixi Aariak. Pixi is strange, mysterious, and inscrutable, a charismatic chameleon and probably inspired the expression ‘still waters run deep.’ She returns to the front of the train after a three-year sentence in the prison car and struggles to acclimate to her old life. You can’t take your eyes off of her. And you probably shouldn’t.
The pilot will be co-produced by Tomorrow Studios and Studio T, with Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the Avatar sequels) tapped to write the script for the series adaptation and become executive producer and showrunner if the pilot is given a series commitment at TNT. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements will serve as Executive Producers of the pilot, alongside the original film’s Bong Joon-ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. Scott Derrickson will direct the pilot.
