Code 8: Laysla De Oliveira Joins Cast For Sci-Fi Thriller

Deadline is reporting that Laysla De Oliveira will be starring opposite Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell in sci-fi thriller Code 8.

Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with some type of supernatural ability, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, most ‘specials’ face discrimination and live in poverty. We follow a man named Conor Reed (Robbie Amell) struggling to pay for his mother’s medical treatment and is recruited by a criminal named Garrett (Stephen Amell) who teaches him to use his powers to pull off a series of crimes.

Laysla De Oliveira (whose credits include Gothica and 7Seconds) will be playing the role of Maddy, a scrappy and resourceful “special” who is part of the inner circle of thieves. Sung Kang will also be playing the role of Agent Park, the head of a militarised police unit.

The Amell’s starred in Jeff Chan’s short film of the same name and launched an Indiegogo campaign last year to get it adapted into a feature film, raising more than $1.7m in the process. Earlier in the year in February, it was announced that XYZ Films had acquired the international sales rights to Code 8, with production already underway. A THR report also states that Kari Matchett, Greg Bryk and Aaron Abrams have joined the cast.

Chan will direct and produce under his Colony Pictures banner, with the Amells, screenwriter Chris Pare, Thick Water Entertainment and Resolute Films’ Lee Kim executive producing.
