The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively working that Universal have acquired the rights to Elyse Hollander’s script that topped the 2016 Black List, Madonna biopic Blond Ambition.
The story of Blond Ambition is set in the early 80’s, where Madonna Louise Ciccone is in New York working on her first album, is struggling in a business that treats women badly, whilst also dealing with a burgeoning love life and the first hints of fame.
In the late 70’s, Madonna moved from Michigan to New York to pursue dance but instead pursued singing and writing songs. After failing in a rock band, she switched it up to dance and pop. Blond Ambition is the debut script from Elyse Hollander, who previously worked as an assistant to Alejandro G. Inarritu on feature Birdman. Michael De Luca, who is producer on the Fifty Shades film for Universal, is attached to produce the biopic here along with Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment. John Zaozirny of Bellevue Productions is also attached to produce.
