Deadline is exclusively reporting that Lionsgate will team up with Roadside Attractions to co-release the film covering the Boston Marathon Bombing starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Stronger focuses on the ordeal of Jeff Bauman and the working-class Bostonian’s struggle to recover after he lost both his legs watching his first Boston Marathon, hoping to see his girlfriend Erin Hurley cross the finish line on Boylston Street. Even though he suffered massive trauma and blood loss, Bauman helped the Boston law enforcement identify the killers as he bumped into one of them before the terrorist dropped a backpack at the feet of the crowd.
The film is based on the novel Bauman wrote with Bret Witter, which has been adapted by John Pollono. David Gordon Green is directing the film, with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Ninestories producing the film alongside Summit, Mandeville and Bold Films. Cast alongside Gyllenhaal is Tatiana Maslany, Miranda Richardson and Clancy Brown.
