The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong—the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything…and everyone along with it.
Remember the trailer spoofs before Tropic Thunder actually started? This basically just sounds like they made a feature adaptation of the Scorcher trailers here. It definitely looks set to be a leave your brain at the door and enjoy the spectacle kind of film. Dean Devlin, producer on Stargate and Independence Day, will be making his directorial feature debut here on a script he penned with Paul Guyot. Geostorm stars Gerard Butler, Jim Strugress, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, Daniel Wu, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia.
Geostorm is scheduled for cinematic release on the 20th October 2017.
