The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Mandy Moore will be starring alongside Amandla Stenberg in Fox’s adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s YA trilogy Darkest Minds.
Darkest Minds is set in an America where a pandemic has killed most of the children and teenagers, the story tells of teens with superpowers who are taken from their families and placed inside internment camps.
Amandla Stenberg will be playing the role of Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old with telekinetic powers who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government. Mandy Moore will be playing the role of an altruistic doctor and fervent member of a crusade that wants to put a stop to the persecution of the children.
The sci-fi film is set to begin shooting later this month in Atlanta. Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who directed the Kung Fu Panda films, will be making her live-action directorial feature debut with this project, which is being produced by Shawn Levy and his 21 laps banner.
