TV News - Drama High - Rosie Perez And Rarmian Newton Cast In NBC PilotDeadline is reporting that Rosie Perez and Rarmian Newton will be joining Auli’i Cravalho to star NBC’s drama pilot Drama High.

 

Drama High is inspired by the story of ground-breaking High School drama teacher Lou Volpe as chronicled in the book Drama High, which was written by one of Volpe’s students, Michael Sokolove. The pilot revolves around an extraordinary working-class High School drama department and the incredible students who come alive under a passionate teacher and family man whose dedication to the program galvanises the entire town.

 

Rosie Perez (whose credits include Search Party and Pure) will be playing the role Tracey, the high energy with a no-holds-barred mouth current Drama School teacher and a former high school theatre person who is finding someone else with passion and vision can still inspire her. Rarmian Newton (whose credits include Dance Academy and The Family) will be playing the role of Maashous Evers, a mysterious, independent and handsome student from a broken home who works as the lighting technician on all the school’s drama projects.

 

The pilot has been written by Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights executive producer/showrunner) and will executive produce the project alongside Michelle Lee under the True Jack Productions banner. Jeffrey Seller (Producer of Broadway smash Hamilton) will also executive produce the project alongside Flody Suarez under the Seller Suarez Productions banner.
