Deadline is exclusively reporting that Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry is the latest name to join the cast of Yann Demange’s film White Boy Rick.
White Boy Rick focuses on the story of Richard Wershe Jr., who in the mid-1980’s at the age of 14 became an undercover informant for local and federal law enforcement agencies and then established himself as a major drug dealer. The dual life he led eventually put him into the cross-hairs of the feds at age 17 when he was found with 17 pounds of cocaine. He was put in jail for life, but ethical questions remain as to how much the feds were involved in putting him deeper into a life of drugs.
Brian Tyree Henry will be playing the role of narcotics detective Mel ‘Roach’Jackson, a character that is said to have a key role as an undercover cop who may lead a double life. Henry (whose also recently starred in HBO’s Vice Principals) will be joining a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rory Cochrane and Bel Powley. With the lead role still to be cast, the film is still planned to begin production in Michigan and Ohio next month. Josh Lesher will serve as Producer alongside LBI Entertainment, Studio 8 and Darren Aronofsky and Protozoa Pictures’ Scott Franklin.
