Dwayne Johnson took to his Instagram account to announce that Vince Vaughn is the latest name to join the cast of WWE Studios and Film4’s wrestling biopic Fighting With My Family.
The film, which is inspired by the Channel 4 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family, follows the story of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia, daughter Saraya and son Zak who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children and when Saraya and Zak get a chance to audition for the WWE, it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible as athletes and siblings.
Our @sevenbucksprod is excited to welcome Vince Vaughn to our #FightingWithMyFamily cast. He loved the script and sank his teeth into it embodying this character. He’s playing a man who I know all too well and those of you who follow wrestling history know well too. The 80’s wrestling star who squandered his money and opportunities because he didn’t have the capacity to handle his fame. One bad decision after another, but these days he owns his past actions and does everything he can to give back to the wrestling business he loves. Vince has been a buddy of mine for years and I’m fired up to see what he brings to this role. I grew up in and love this wild, crazy and unpredictable world of pro wrestling. Our little passion project is coming together nicely. More casting news to come. Production starts tomorrow. Let’s shoot! #FightingWithMyFamily #VinceVaughn #SevenBucksProds #MisherFilms #Film4 #WWEFilms #SquaredCircleDNA
Vince Vaughn will be joining a cast that includes Florence Pugh, Jack Lowden, Dwayne Johnson, Lena Headey and Nick Frost. Stephen Merchant is writing and directing the film. WWE Studios are co-financing the film with Film4, who have developed the project since it’s inception, with shooting set to commence in Los Angeles and London this month. Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions will serve as executive producers on the project, while Kevin Misher of Misher Films will serve as producer alongside WWE Studios President Michael Luisi.
There is no cinematic release date as of yet for Fighting With My Family.
