Deadline is exclusively reporting that Paramount have made offers to both Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to star in the sequel to Daddy’s Home opposite Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.
The original film, which came out at the end of 2015, focused on two father figures – the alpha male biological father and the sensitively caring step-dad – going head to head. The film made $240m worldwide on an estimated $50m budget, which means that a sequel always seemed likely.
In the report on this subject on The Hollywood Reporter, it’s believed that the sequel will include older generation for the head to head and that’s where Gibson and Lithgow come in. The news just comes after Mel Gibson was nominated for Best Director for Hacksaw Ridge, while Lithgow just won the SAG Award for Best Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role in The Crown.
There is no cinematic release date as of yet for Daddy’s Home 2.
