Green Lantern Corps: David Goyer And Justin Rhodes To Pen Script

Film News - Green Lantern Corps - David Goyer and Justin Rhodes To Pen The Script

Deadline exclusively reports that Warner Bros. and DC are moving aggressively on a new screen version of Green Lantern by hiring David Goyer and Justin Rhodes to pen the screenplay.

David Goyer will also be attached as a producer on the project whilst DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will be working as Executive Producers. The new version of Green Lantern is being described as Lethal Weapon in space, whilst also aiming to have this take being told as an origin story. More importantly, it’s been revealed who will be the primary focus in this new take on Green Lantern…and we now know that Green Lantern Corps will focus on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The report states that the story is set to focus more on John Stewart and how he was a Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps, with the story focusing on his relationship with Jordan and the Corps, which Goyer and Johns developed the idea together.

While it’s great to hear that Warner Bros. and DC are moving forward finally with the Green Lantern Corps, particularly when you hear the word ‘aggressively’ moving forward with the project, it’s fantastic to hear that the story will primarily focus on John Stewart. After all, we already got the Hal Jordan story in 2011 with Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern, whether we want to admit it or not that film happened. Now is it safe to assume that the Armie Hammer could actually be Hal Jordan at this point with all the rumours circulating the web the last while? Who will be cast as John Stewart? Mahershala Ali? If he didn’t just sign up for a role in Black Panther I could easily have seen Sterling K. Brown as John Stewart.
