Where the original had us primarily follow Emily Blunt’s Kate Macer, the sequel will have us follow Benicio Del Toro’s Alejandro Gallic and Josh Brolin’s CIA Agent Matt Graver, who in Sicario were established as men hellbent on hunting down cartel kingpins, no matter what. Here they try to provoke a war with the Sonoran drug cartel by kidnapping Isabel Reyes, the daughter of the cartel’s top gangster.
Elijah Rodriguez (whose only credit thus far is The Book of Life) is set to be playing the pivotal role (according to the report) of Miguel Hernandez, a Mexican-American teenager who is caught up between becoming a sicario in the dangerous world of the drug cartels and his desire to do what is right and not lose his humanity. Rodriguez will be joining a cast that includes Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Catherine Keener, Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and David Castaneda.
There is no cinematic release date as of yet for Sicario.
