TheWrap is exclusively reporting that actor Ciarán Hinds has been cast in the lead villain role of Steppenwolf in DC Films’ upcoming ensemble epic Justice League.
The synopsis for Justice League is as follows:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
The report states that Hinds has wrapped up production on the role of Steppenwolf, which is said to be a motion capture character in the same vein of Josh Brolin’s character Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sources tell TheWrap that Steppenwolf will look different from what the character looked in the deleted scene ‘Communion’ for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the villain aiming to go after the three mother boxes shown in the deleted scene also. Personally I like that Ciarán Hinds has got the part, as he is an actor whose work I’ve enjoyed over the years. He’ll most notably be known recently for his role of Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones but his other credits include Rome, Road To Perdition, Munich, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Woman In Black and John Carter.
Justice League is scheduled for cinematic release on the 17th November 2017.
