Deadline has reported that the NBC network have decided to not move forward in picking up the Cruel Intentions pilot for a series commitment.
The pilot was set fifteen years after the events of the 1999 film of the same name, having us follow the cunning and beautiful Kathryn Merteuil vying for the control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of the late Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove.
The cast of the pilot included Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sophina Brown, Taylor John Smith, Samantha Logan, Nathalie Kelley, Kate Levering, Coby Bell and Peter Gallagher. Back in May the project was considered to be in contention for a summer run by the NBC network, then over the summer considered it as a possible original series for the long in th works NBCUniversal OTT service. However with lengthy on-and-off discussions with the network and adjustments to the budget of the project, NBC and Sony couldn’t reach a deal. Sony Pictures TV are now planning to shop the Cruel Intentions pilot elsewhere though whether or not the cast will remain the same remains to be seen.
