Sam Phillips: Leonardo DiCaprio To Play Music Pioneer For Paramount

film-news-sam-phillips-leonardo-dicaprio-to-play-music-pioneer-for-paramountDeadline exclusively reports that Paramount Pictures and Appian Way are to team up and develop a film about pioneering music producer Sam Phillips, with Leonardo DiCaprio set to play the title character.


Paramount have just acquired the rights to Peter Guralnick’s novel Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock ‘N’ Roll and now the film will be developed by Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson and will be joined by a number of Producers that will include Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Steve Bing, Ian Montone, Rick Yorn and Peter Guralnick.


Sam Phillips was a music producer based in Memphis at Sun Studio, who helped make stars of artists such as Elvis Presley, Ike Turner, Howlin’ Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, changing music forever in the 1950’s. Paramount and Appian Way will move quickly to attach a writer and director to the project.
