She’s Gotta Have It will be a contemporary update of Lee’s 1986 indie film that will have us following Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise), a Brooklyn-based artist in her late 20’s struggling to define herself divide her time amongst her friends, her three lovers: the cultured model Greer Childs, the protective investment banker Jamie Overstreet and da original B-Boy sneakerhead Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos), who still wears Jordans but is now a social-media phenomenon.
Spike Lee is directing all ten episodes of the series, which he created and Executive Producers alongside his wife Tonya Lewis Lee. DeWanda Wise’s Nola Darling is a sexually liberated, free spirited painter/mixed media artist. In the 1986 indie film the character was portrayed by Tracy Camilla Johns. DeWanda Wise will appear on the small screen in the new year in FOX’s upcoming event series Shots Fired and a major recurring role on WGN America’s drama series Underground.
