The sequel found it’s director in Steven S. DeKnight back in late February to begin working on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham which saw the original film come out in 2013, making the film about giant robots versus Kaiju on a $190m budget and the film earned $411m worldwide. Plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps at the minute, the only detail given at the moment is that the lead character will be the son of Idris Elba’s character. Also like the majority of the actors cast so far, Jing Tian’s role is being kept under wraps. Tian’s previous credits include Police Story: Lockdown, The Great Wall and Kong: Skull Island.
Guillermo del Toro will serve as Producer on the sequel along with Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, John Boyega and Femi Oguns under the Upper Room Productions banner. Cale Boyter will serve as Executive Producer. Jing Tian will be joining a cast that includes John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is currently scheduled for cinematic release on the 23rd February 2018.
