Breed: The Invitation Director To Helm Horror Film For Fox

film-news-breed-the-invitation-director-to-helm-horror-film-for-foxVariety and TheWrap are reporting that The Invitation director Karyn Kusama will be directing FOX’s upcoming horror film Breed based on the Chase Novak novel of the same name.

The project will see Kusama reunite with Producers and writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who also worked on The Invitation with Kusama. Chase Novak is the pen name for Scott Spencer whose works include Endless Love and Waking the Dead. Breed will have us follow an upscale New York couple who are struggling to conceive a child and turn to a questionable and controversial Eastern European clinic. Ten years later, after-effects from that procedure begin to take effect.

Breed will be the first film under Scott Frank’s production deal with Fox, setting the stage for a slate of adult genre films in budgets ranging from $20m to $30m.

In a statement, Scott Frank said:

Breed was the first piece of material I acquired and was a complete no-brainer — falling right into the sweet spot of the work that I’m trying to do in my partnership with Fox. The fact that I also get to collaborate with the talented likes of Phil, Matt, and Karyn only makes an already exciting project even sweeter.

There is no cinematic release date as of yet for Breed.
