Deadline is exclusively reporting that Sam Mendes is in early talks with Disney to develop and direct a live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl’s James And The Giant Peach.
The Roald Dahl book was previously adapted via Walt Disney Animation in 1996 which was directed by Henry Slick, featuring the voice talents of Simon Callow, Richard Dreyfuss, Jane Leeves, Susan Sarandon, David Thewlis, Miriam Margoyles and Jeff Bennett. The story has us following an orphan who lives with his two mean aunts and ends up befriending human-like bugs who live inside a giant peach and they trek towards New York City.
Sam Mendes recently has helmed two James Bond films (Skyfall and Spectre) back-to-back and is currently attached to direct The Voyeur’s Motel, which has yet to begin casting. The report points out that from their sources they hear discussions between Mendes and Disney are in the very early stages.
