Variety exclusively reports that director Doug Liman has left Channing Tatum’s Gambit to direct the Warner Bros./DC Films adaptation of Dark Universe aka Justice League Dark.
The project has been in the development line for a number of years, with Guillermo del Toro originally set to direct, but he dropped out as he was sidetracked by other projects in the pipeline. Michael Gilio is currently writing the script and Scott Rudin is serving as Producer. Plot details are being kept under wraps but the report from Variety states that the story will revolve around a dark Justice League team that consists of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon. The report also states that the film will play a major role in the DC Extended Universe.
This puts FOX’s Gambit back to square one in development as it loses yet another director, though Collider‘s report on states that FOX are still sticking with starting production on Gambit in January, with Josh Zetumer currently writing the script.
