Deadline reports that Rupert Grint is set to star in and serve as executive producer on the new series for Sony’s streaming network Crackle, Snatch, based on the 2000 Guy Ritchie film of the same name.
Back in April it was announced that Crackle was adapting Guy Ritchie’s film of the same name, which is set to carry the spirit of the setting in the film, creating a new world with new characters. Inspired on a real life heist in London, Snatch will focus on a group of twenty-something, up-and-coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and become suddenly thrusted into the high-stakes world of organised crime where they must quickly learn to navigate the treacherous waters of London’s underworld as rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains descend upon them.
Production on the first season, which will be ten-episodes long, will begin next week in Manchester, England and the series will premiere in 2017. Alex De Rakoff, who is creator and head writer for the series, will serve as an executive producer while Helen Flint will serve as Producers under the Little Island Productions banner. Rupert Grint will be starring in a cast that also includes Dougray Scott and Ed Westwick, with Grint playing the role of Charlie Cavendish, a dynamic, frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh con man, Scott will be playing the role of Vic Hill, a man who continues the con game from inside prison and Westwick will be playing the role of Sonny Castillo, a nightclub owner.
On paper I’m still not entirely keen on the Snatch series idea as when I originally heard it, I figured the cast could sway me into checking the series out. Will have to wait for some footage I guess to be completely swayed to check the show out in 2017.
